  1. I am inclined to think the UAE’s involvement in Socotra is more sinister. Apparently they have landed tanks which are not necessary for the establishment of a naval base. Do the Emiratis have more commercial ambitions, perhaps by establishing tourist sites? If they do, the chances are that the locals may be uprooted and probably not employed in such enterprises. The Yemen government, even perhaps a new South Yemen separatist government will not be able to stand up to the UAE.
