  1. This is an excellent and timely reminder of an annual event which is of huge significance to Saudi Arabia as well as the worldwide Muslim community.
The increase in the number of pilgrims this year will exacerbate the problems faced by the Saudi security forces in controlling the flow of pilgrims to avoid the disasters which have sometimes marred the hajj in the past. The religious grace attained by performing each ritual, such as the stoning of the pillar, at a precise time has always tempted pilgrims to jump the queue laid down by the authorities leading to congestion and stampede.
It will be interesting to see how the problem is handled this year.
