  1. Doesn’t the report in the Birmingham Mail need correction? The summer solstice falls on 21 June, and therefore comfortably – or uncomfortably for those observing the fast in the UK – within the dates of 27 May – 24 June forecast for Ramadan this year. Most of our Arab Muslim friends preferred to be at home, i.e. in the Middle East, for Ramadan, even if it meant interrupting summer holidays, presumably not only to avoid these extremes of timing, but also because observing the fast is easier if those around you are also doing so.
