1 thought on “Political prisoners”

  1. The issue of political prisoners fascinates me and I have always been a great follower of Amnesty International’s publications as well as HRW because I think the persecution of ideas and the choice of which bearers of new ideas to persecute is an indicator of what a regime may be sensitive to. In simple terms, the more the persecution of ideas, the higher the risk posed by the nature of the political system. A highly corrupt and non persecuting regime is inherently stable, for instance Germany, the Scandinavian countries and the US are extremely corrupt systems, but you are allowed to say pretty much what you want.
The persecution of ideas is the greatest sign of a lack of authority in the same way that raising one’s voice is a sign of lack of authority.
