Thank you for today’s piece on Lebanon, timely and thought provoking as always, but I am not sure that it is wise, or indeed correct, to characterise the scenario you describe – Hizbullah’s responsibility for the presence of the ammonium nitrate and their use of it and of an underground weapons cache in the port, and an Israeli bombing raid then triggering the blast – as ‘the truth’. I agree that the more violent their attacks on the investigation become the more credibility they give to the story, or at least to the first part of it. But it is not proven. Anything that can be truthfully said to strengthen Bitar’s hand should be but this doesn’t.
