Overall it could perhaps be emphasised that Bahraini financial statistics involve smoke and mirrors, the finances of the State and of the Al Khalifa are hard to disentangle and the actual level of Saudi assistance is opaque. But the conclusion that given the regional struggle with Iran, Saudi backing will continue, that Bahrain is not a high ticket item compared with Syria and Yemen, but the greater the dependence the less freedom of action for Bahrain, is surely right.
