    Media reports suggest that the Saudis – and perhaps the Emiratis – are considering investing in Shia areas of Iraq, following discussions with al-Sadr. It seems they are trying to promote Arab unity against Iranian influence while downplaying the Sunni-Shia divide.
    This is a classic move out of the GCC playbook: co-opt and pay off.
    It appears MbS and MbZ are embarking on another ambitious, and likely dangerous, plan, following their adventures in Yemen and with Qatar.
